Welcome

Welcome to the “Handmaids & Harlots Podcast” homepage. Here you will find links to previous episodes along with relevant show notes as well as essays, editorials, and information pertaining to the podcast.

Our podcast will explore Hulu’s Content for both shows, as well as industry news related to either show and their cast, writers, and directors.

We’ll also be delving into the source materials for both shows: “The Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood as well as “The Covent Garden Ladies: The Extraordinary Story of Harris’s List” by Hallie Rubenhold.

The podcast begins at the start of Season 3 for “Harlots,” where we will be discussing the show, utilizing Rubehold’s text for depth of analysis and further context.

Because of the timing between the seasons for both shows, we’ll roll right into “The Handmaid’s Tale,” upon conclusion of Season 3 of Harlots, operating much the same way for the upcoming season of “Handmaids.”

Once we’ve completed both seasons, we’ll go back and do in depth analysis of both texts, beginning with “Covent Garden” and then moving on to “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

There will be the upcoming sequel to “The Handmaid’s Tale” at some point to read and discuss, as well as other texts both historical and fictional to consider in relation to “Harlots.”

You can expect some hot takes, a lot of feminist positions and some serious nerding. Myself and my co-host are both Historians, and come at both works as Sex Positive, Intersectional Feminists. One of us is a Lesbian, military veteran. One of us is a 50+ year old mother of two, poet. We’re both book buffs, super nerds, gamers, and fur-mommas.

We love this stuff, we love good books and we are excited to discuss both shows and the literature that informs them. Join us.
